MARNI
Marni was founded in 1994 in Milan on a whim by Ciwifurs scion Gianni Castiglioni and his designer wife, the Swiss-born, part-Chilean Consuelo (and named after Gianni’s sister, Marina). Its success has been achieved without any advertising before 2015—and against the odds. This fur-centric house arrived on the scene when mink and chinchilla were hardly considered politically correct—or au courant. But Castiglioni treated fur, she told Vogue, “like a fabric, maybe dyeing it, doing it without a lining, with just a little bit of string to close it, so the pieces looked modern and wearable.”
